Our online JHSC training course for Alberta offers a comprehensive introduction to Health and Safety Committee (HSC) and Health and Safety Representative (HSR) roles and responsibilities. Taking this course contributes to the required hours of training for HSC members and HSRs. This 6-hour course is self-paced and can be completed in multiple sessions if necessary. This course is approved by Alberta Labor and meets the Alberta OHS legislated training requirements for HSC co-chairs and HSR's and is also recommended for all HSC members and for managers supporting the HSC or HSR's AMHSA is a Government of Alberta approved training agency.

In this course, participants will learn:
The purpose of the Alberta OHS legislation and its three parts.
The roles and responsibilities of various work site parties and their OHS obligations.
The key roles and responsibilities that an employer must understand and meet.
How to establish and support an HSC or HSR.

The importance of work site inspections, including what is required, how to prepare for and perform the inspection, and how to communicate the results.

HSC Training Alberta

This course is designed to take approximately 6 hours to complete, in accordance with Alberta Labour requirements. The course is self-paced and can be stopped and restarted as needed.

Testing included in this online course is intended to reinforce the learning objectives and fulfill the requirements of the mandatory training for HSC co-chairs and HSRs. A mark of 80% must be achieved in order to pass the course. Participants can repeat the final exam twice if the pass mark is not achieved, for a total of 3 attempts.

​To successfully complete the course, participants must indicate which two interactive activities were completed and must achieve 80% on the final exam. Upon successful completion of this online course, an AMHSA Certificate of Completion will be available to download and print. This course is recommended to be retaken every 3 years from the course completion date indicated on the certificate.
